Weekly Roundup 10/11/24

This is the second roundup in as many weeks! I’m planning on making this a regular thing both for myself and for anyone who might stumble on the site.

The past week was a stark reminder of where our planet is right now in terms of climate change, and a confirmation that the seasons we’re used to are different now. In the south Santa Clara Valley we saw the thermometer reach 100° again. We always get a humbling October heat wave but the trends have been record-setting.

…and of course, Hurricane Milton ripped across Florida, claiming the title of “Storm of the Century” in the state- though something tells me that we may see more like Milton before the century is up. Hurricane Milton is pictured in the Gulf of Mexico

The Meta AI Video Generator looks scary good. More realistic than any other I’ve seen. One thing it appears to be good at is taking existing footage and adding elements. This is frightening for the idea of seeing is believing, as you can easily manipulate real footage in subtle ways that could be incredibly misleading.
